There's more to life than a happy ending. Jon Martello is a strong, handsome, good old-fashioned guy. Barbara Sugarman is a bright, beautiful, good old-fashioned girl. Wrestling with the expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy.

0:57Ha! Thong Song reference.
3:14Only a few things he really cares about, but it's actually quite a list.
9:57I'm mostly jealous his bed is in the middle of the room. Must be a big apartment. Or pad.
11:43"Most people have heard of Tivo, most people that pay attention have heard of it."
14:12The trash noise when he uses the trash.

29:57Amazing really, that she convinced him to go to night school.
30:50Did she just call him a sexy minion? Odd.
35:39I think that constitutes an addiction, right there.
39:49Loving the sister. Assume it's a non-speaking role.
48:03A man that cleans a lot isn't embarrassing, that's awesome!
51:54Oops, the browser history. There should be lessons in using the internet.
59:18"Stop and think for a second..." I love that.
1:08:32Loving Julianne in this. Total honesty all the way.
1:14:34I love rapping in movies! Also guy trying to be cool despite the music.
1:16:36Ew, religion sucks.
1:18:17It was a speaking part after all! But hey, she didn't say much but what she said was awesome.

Thoughts

I was in two minds about watching this, given my prudish nature and the subject matter. But, then again, I was intrigued by it being Joseph's directorial debut.

You could tell it was a labour of love for JGL, written and directed by him, and starring him too. It wasn't the best film ever, but I did quite like the composition. The use of Mac noises against real life activities, the rather marvellous accents, the juxtaposition of church against the rest of his life.

The relationships were weird and overall the film followed that same path, but it came to a good ending, and it wasn't the worst ninety minutes of my life.
