Thoughts
Honeyz have popped up a few times on BBC Four's Top of the Pops replays, through the late 90s and now into the new millennium. Their recent appearance was for Won't Take It Lying Down and they had a new vibe and new look which jarred me into thinking this was an album I should probably get listened to.
Traditionally, you would think of the Honeyz as a gorgeous three piece girl group, with a lead singer lilting over solid backup harmonies, singing their way through ballads such as End of the Line and Finally Found. This was pastel suit territory but when Won't Take It Lying Down popped up, everything was much more grown up. On TV, the group were rocking a variety of PVC outfits, and that more sleek and sexy attitude makes its way into the track as well. It's far more upbeat than the rest.
But it all works together to create a pop album that actually does stand the test of time. The album slows down in the middle, even while the remixes do some hard work to keep the pace up, but the tracklist starts and ends with two nostalgic classics, so worth sticking around for.
