Thoughts
No external sources influenced the classic pick this week, so I just had a scroll down the to do list and selected the first artist it landed on. Belinda Carlisle had so much more of a career than I realised, and this album falls at that crossroads between the 80s and the 90s.
The album kicks off with Leave a Light On, which was a single at the time. The verse sounds SO much like Tiffany's I Think We're Alone Now that I can't help singing along to the wrong song. It gets things off to a rocky start and it only gets more disjointed from there.
There are long gaps between the tracks, just enough so that you think 'has it finished?' and then another song starts. And there are unexpected moments. La Luna is the midway point of the album and is suddenly a flamenco song with Spanish guitar. It's accomplished and not a bad track but it's out of place amongst the rest of the more run-of-the-mill pop.
(We Want) The Same Thing is another single, and I'll admit that one has stuck in my head a little since I listened to it. As a whole, the album wasn't unpleasant to listen to, but because it was so disjointed, it's not one I'd particularly reach for in future. So, it's a 3 out of 5.
