Thoughts

I remember really enjoying Amy Shark’s debut album, it felt like such a fresh sound in that singer/songwriter genre. There have been a few albums since but I’d sort of forgotten about her until this brand new one popped up. I listened to it a couple of times across the week and it instantly took me back to those moments of the first album.

The lead single, The Biggest Dick, instantly sets the scene for what we’re about to indulge in – upbeat pop with an edge, slightly angry lyrics hidden underneath layers of neat production. The album moves through the ups and downs of modern life, Child of Divorce and Our Last Fight. There are moments in relationships divulged here, the good, the bad and the ugly.

I loved listening to this album. Shark’s vocals draw you in and the quirky lyrics keep you invested. At just over 30 minutes, there’s no time to get bored and there are no let downs in the bunch to bring you down. There’s no stand out track to make this reach the absolute lofty heights of stardom, but I’m happy to add this album to my library for future rediscovery.
