2:32There are many reasons I'm glad we got married on a boat. The detritus post-wedding may be one of them!
4:07Totally impressive to start a movie with a monologue.
6:31He has a brilliant car. Don't put a bike on the back of it.
11:09"We're getting maaaaarried."
11:47This other Culkin kid is way cuter than the more famous one.
16:30I want a basketball hoop!
19:30He's wearing Nikes! That's a fail right there.
21:41I don't think you should ever say "to use a word from your generation.
28:41And I'm impressed by the size of the Banks' house. This other one must be enormous.
37:55The bride burger and the groom burger sound excellent. I wonder how they are different.
42:10Franck!
48:47Argh, the invitations conversation is the worst.
52:39"Oh, very nice. We'll change it all though."
58:57Love the flipout in the supermarket. I can relate to that so much.
1:04:25"Makes great foam."
1:08:30Steve Martin has the best faces.
1:11:09I don't really get the whole calling your in-laws mum and dad.
1:18:40Playing basketball in the depths of the night isn't exactly... quiet.
1:27:34I feel like this bit is emotional but... I don't get weddings.
1:36:16This is chock full of wedding songs, I bet the soundtrack was popular.
1:39:36It's not like she's not going to be back. I've seen the sequel.

Thoughts

A classic, and one that we watched when we needed something simple and delightful. I've seen it before, although I can remember the sequel more than I can the original. What I do know is, and this will not come as a surprise to anyone, that Franck is brilliant!

Aside from some of the fashion, the film has held up really well. The underlying story of a man losing his daughter and/or gaining a son is one that doesn't tire, and with the additional bonuses such as a Culkin in the family, and a Franck organising the wedding, there's plenty to like. Steve Martin is so expressive, and the dialogue is very well done. Really enjoyed it - more than I was even expecting to.
