Thoughts
I so wanted this to be a good film. It feels like ages since we had a good globe-trotting, tomb-raiding, mystery-solving adventure, but this was not it. The start was a bit slow, but once the group got together and started 'planning the heist', it was okay. We blew past the twenty minute rule, so there must have been something in it to start with. But it went downhill pretty quickly.
There wasn't a huge amount of chemistry between the leads, despite their best efforts. The clothing was awful. There were a lot of different people running around with guns and it was never quite clear the motivations of any of them at any one time. It was derivative of all the other adventure movies (this Guardian review sums it up: "this hodgepodge of plundered elements adds up to nothing more than Indiana Bourne and the Thomas Crown Da Vinci Code.") and by the end, it was hugely repetitive.
Stanley Tucci was barely in it, appeared twice, and one of those was a repeat of the previous scene. We watched Krasinski's character get lifted by the fountain, and then we had to watch the exact same thing again when Domhnall gave it a go. Yawn.
