The Sapphires is an inspirational tale set in the heady days of the late ‘60s about a quartet of young, talented singers from a remote Aboriginal mission, discovered and guided by a kind-hearted, soul-loving manager. Thoughts
We've had this one sitting in our to-watch pile for ages, actually had it rented with those thirty days counting down ever so quickly. Our hand was forced when someone accidentally hit the play button, but it's good because we may not have got round to watching it otherwise. The trailer sold it to us originally, but by the time we got to watching it, I'd mostly forgotten what it was all about!
Actually a really good film! It took a while to get going, and was utterly predictable at many moments. But it was fun, and the characters were great, feisty and annoying and creative and gutsy. The emotions at the end were a little overdone because it was quite obvious to all that it would be a happy ending. Still, Chris O'Dowd is in everything at the moment, isn't he? I loved his portrayal, especially the conversation where he chose the lead singer, and the bit by the river.
