When city police find a murder victim who was somehow forced to die of overeating, it puts veteran Detective William Sommerset and his new, talented but still green partner, Detective David Mills, on a desperate hunt for a serial killer who is making statements by staging his victims as tableaus of the Seven Deadly Sins. The first corpse found was Gluttony, and soon the detectives find more: a lawyer killed because of his Greed; an insurance scammer killed for his Sloth; a fashion model killed for her Pride. With time running out for the last two possible victims - Envy and Wrath - can Sommerset and Mills get ahead of the killer before his final two acts come to deadly fruition?

Thoughts
This film was referenced in The Butterfly Effect, and Mr C was agog that I hadn't seen it yet, so it was immediately put on the list. He knew it was good but couldn't remember much about it, so it was a nice surprise for both of us.
This film is SO GOOD. Most of it leading up to the end is really tense and gross and violent and stressful, but the final showdown really pays off all that has gone before. I thought the actual ending was quite abrupt, I would have liked to know what happened to Mills, but I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter, he lost the fight and became one of the sins. Amazing.
