Tremors

The monster movie that breaks new ground

Film info

Just as Val McKee and Earl Bassett decide to leave Perfection, Nevada, strange rumblings prevent their departure. With the help of a shapely seismology student, they discover their desolate town is infested with gigantic man-eating creatures that live below the ground. Thoughts

I believe this to be one of those films that isn't great but earns itself a cult following and is therefore beloved. I can totally see that. I really liked the camaradarie between Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, and the tone of the movie is great, a little bit horror but quite a lot more comedy.

I think the reason it misses the mark for me is that there could be a really good film in here - the premise is great, but the monsters are just ridiculous. There's a moment where the doomsday couple realise they had planned for everything except attack from underground and I think there's so much potential terror in there... but it's just one fleeting moment in the movie.

Anyway it was very entertaining but I don't know if I can say it was actually good.
