Thoughts
I'm always intrigued by a new Miley Cyrus album (I think she might just be going by Miley now), because you never know what you're going to get. She's one of those artists that reinvents herself with every record. Pop, country, dance.
This one, well, I don't know what it is. Every track sounds like it belongs on a different album. Orbit, for example, was absolutely gorgeous. Sweeping, sultry, encompassing: "Place a marble on the floor / When you walk in the door / It'll roll to you." And then moving from that warm blanket to the triple-paced drum beats of Aftermath was jarring.
Part of the point of these reviews is to focus on the album as a piece of art rather than a playlist, but this was the latter. I enjoyed each song individually - except Bass Persuades where Miley is talking about what the kids like these days, boy does that make you feel old. But as a body of work it was very confusing.
For that reason it gets a 3 out of 5. I'd put most of these songs on rotation but not the album as a whole.
