I Haven't Been Entirely Honest with You by Miranda Hart

It’s taken me a while to get through this book. I was lucky enough to see the author in conversation at the Cheltenham Festival, where a copy of the book was included. But I found reading the physical copy a bit hardgoing, so I opted to switch to the audiobook. Hearing the stories and advice in Miranda’s wonderfully cozy voice was much better.

Honestly, Miranda

Honestly, Miranda

It’s no secret that I love Miranda Hart so it’s been a joy for me to see her out and about in the last week or so, emerging from a period of severe illness to release a new book about her experience and learnings. I was lucky enough to see the lady in question at the Cheltenham Literature Festival last night, and just want to celebrate that fact. She was so lovely and had the warmest reception from the crowd, as people say ‘a lot of love in the room’.

More Mastermind - The Miranda edition

Hooray, it’s time for another Mastermind specialist topic that I think I could have a good go at if I was sitting in the hot seat. It was a few episodes ago and Amy’s chosen topic was the sitcom MIRANDA. Yay! If I’m being completely honest, I only knew this had occurred because Miranda herself took the quiz on Tiktok. She did pretty well, not 100% though! Amy got ten overall, and I would have got eight, so naturally a rewatch of this show is required now!

Five more Christmas specials

Five more Christmas specials

Last year, I wrote about the top five Christmas television specials, featuring such gems as the wonderful Vicar of Dibley, the ever-engaging Doctor Who and of course, my complete obsession with The Goes Wrong Show. Looking back at this now, I’m a bit annoyed that I called it the top five because… I don’t know how much thought I put into it actually being the BEST five. They were certainly five very good specials that were on my mind at the time, but the best? That’s a much bigger question. Like Ross, I would need to give that some thought, come up with a shortlist, make my final decisions, and laminate the results so they can’t be changed.

Miranda is such fun and so much more

Miranda is such fun and so much more

I’ve been a fan of Miranda since her sitcom first came out (2009, can you believe that?) and her unwavering dedication to joy and acceptance has been wonderful to follow. Recently, the lovely lady tweeted about some Christmas items for sale on her shop, with an element of the price going to charity, so it seemed rude not to snap up some of the goodies. I’ve long been searching for some comfortable jogging bottoms and should have known that if anyone knows comfort for a taller person, it would be Miranda. These are incredible.

Peggy and Me by Miranda Hart

I was in two minds about reading this book because as much as I love Miranda Hart, I’m not so keen on people gushing about their pets. It’s fine if they have such a great relationship with their pooch, I’m just not sure I need to hear about it. But I picked up this audiobook in an Audible sale and decided to give it a whirl. I’m glad I did. Although there are some moments that non-pet owners like me will never understand, there’s still a lot to learn about life and love through this.

Miranda's what-I-call celebration

Miranda's what-I-call celebration

This week, the BBC aired a celebration of Miranda Hart’s self-titled sitcom that has been in our lives for ten years already. That seems like a bizarre amount of time to have passed but what would we have done without it? I remember bidding the show a fond farewell at the time it left our screens and it was so nice to revisit our beloved characters just a few years later.

The Girl With the Lost Smile by Miranda Hart

I do so love Miranda that even though this is a kid’s book, I had to read it. Poor Chloe who loses her smile when life starts to get on top of her, she has to go on a handful of adventures to try and find it again. As an adult, reading this, the allegories with real life are obvious, but as a kid, I think this is an important story that will hopefully help anyone in the same situation.

Putting the Hart into the West End

Putting the Hart into the West End

When it was first announced that Miranda Hart would be taking the role of Miss Hannigan in the West End production of Annie, I knew I’d have to go and see it. Annie isn’t one of my favourite musicals – children and animals and all that jazz – but the chance to see Miranda in her first stage musical role was too good to pass up. Thus, I rocked up to the Picadilly Theatre one Saturday to see how it all went down.

Spy

Spy

Properly loved this one. It was no doubt helped by the fact that we’ve just trawled our way through the entire James Bond archive, but what a fantastic comedy spy homage film. It was packed with nods to the source material, but was an equally solid story in its own right. How one woman manages to dig deep and do what’s right for her country, despite being surrounded by, let’s face it, fools.

A fond farewell to a trio of sitcoms

A fond farewell to a trio of sitcoms

Browsing through the BBC iPlayer, I saw that the final episode of Miranda that aired over Christmas was about to time out. It reminded me that three of my fondly admired sitcoms came to their conclusion this festive period, and surprisingly, all three went out in style. It may be that LOST burned me and that I hold a grudge for too long, but it feels like most TV shows captivate their audiences and then end in disappointment. Not these three!

The Best of Miranda by Miranda Hart

The Best of Miranda by Miranda Hart

Having seen the Miranda episodes far too many times to mention, the actual scripts weren’t that interesting to me to read, although I do love a good script book. It was the introductions by the author, the snippets about what it was like to record and the production notes littered throughout each script that made it fascinating.

Is It Just Me? By Miranda Hart

Interesting one this. I absolutely adore Miranda, love her sitcom, love her attitude, love her acting. So I was keen to read this and pretty much loved it. It’s really good to know that it isn’t just you with some of these things, although I can’t identify with all of them, I can with more than I’d previously admitted!

Get fit with Miranda... maybe

I’ve developed a bit of a fascination with workout apps and digital videos, and it turns out iTunes is stocked full of both. I’ve tried a few here and there, but was most excited when it was announced that Miranda Hart, of Miranda fame, was going to release something. The premise behind her video is that you have to have fun while getting up and moving, otherwise it’s easier to sit on the couch. Hence, Maracattack! It’s a good premise.

A Channel 4 identity crisis

A Channel 4 identity crisis

I treated myself to the first series of Miranda, and after watching the first episode I found myself ever so confused. The iTunes version has the Channel 4 logo at the beginning. How odd, I thought. Miranda couldn’t be more BBC. Created by BBC Productions, broadcast on the BBC. The show came about because of a radio comedy that was on… wait for it… BBC Radio. But there it was, large as life, a Channel 4 ident.
