Thoughts

AT LAST!

As much as I've enjoyed the process of working our way through every Bond film, I can't quite describe the relief to get to my beloved Brosnan. I can see why people attach themselves to the different variations of the character, but Pierce is definitely mine. Suave but funny, womaniser but without the aggressiveness we've previous seen, an action hero with some relatively up to date kit, and that general feeling of over-the-top but fun and fantastic action.

I've seen the other three Pierce films but surprised myself by realising I hadn't actually seen this one. So it was a real treat - a Brosnan Bond but a brand new story for me!

Mostly loved the new cast members, and it's always fun to see Q back again. Judy Dench as M is an absolute inspiration, nailing everything that was questionable about the Bond films that have gone before and throwing them into the stark light of day.

I couldn't really understand how Joe Don Baker was suddenly a good guy in this one. I can see that several years would have passed between his previous appearance, and that people wouldn't be watching them in the space of a week or so like me, but still... it's hard not to see him as that crazy arms dealer, even if he is supposed to now be with the CIA.

Nevertheless, a good story, with a good cast. Some dodgy Russian accents but some love for the computer programmers. Overall, a fab Bond!
